  • hello from nottingham

    Hi everyone,
my family and I moved into a house (12 months ago) which has a garden that you can fit more than a trampoline in. We now spend most of our time outside. We went a bit mad at first buying allsorts of fruit trees, bushes, canes, vines. We put everything in pots as we were unsure where to put them. Our 'carpet of pots' just kept growing and growing. We have since settled down and reality has dawned - We are complete novices, done nothing more than cut small patch of grass in the past. Now have, I think, around 25 trees and maybe 50 bushes etc. (not to mention the 100 or so strawberry plants - dont ask)
Who knew about rootstocks, soil conditions, pruning techniches, etc...! Yes, we have bought too many..... bought some items that are probably not suited to our garden......had two orders duplicated......received items we never ordered.

    May need a 'little' advice

    Hi

    Welcome to the Vine

If you do want to learn about these things, Nottingham has a very large community garden network; many of whom do very reasonably priced courses so teach you these things. We have a community garden ourselves, which we are getting back into shape after it had been neglected and when we have volunteers on site, we usually do half 'work' half 'teach' days...so that in return for volunteering on our site, we teach you about seasonal aspects of horticulture. If we get funded projects, we will also be advertising it on there - One of the things we want to do is to have a year's woodland management funded workshops [one each quarter] which will be all about fruit tree and bush propagation, growing, pruning etc. Which would be great for you!

                  Hi Matjax.

                  Welcome to the vine.

Come in and pull up a pew. You will have to bring your own mug though

I am fairly new to gardening too, so am kinda going at it a hundred miles an hour too still. (Addictive isn't it?)

You will gain loads of advice on here, pretty much all of it useful. I only joined in Feb and am now far more confident that I am making good decisions about my growing space since joining.

Hi Matjax, a chilly welcome from me. I'm no use to you really, except for reminding you that not everyone is drowning with rain these days.
