  • Hello From The Isle Of Wight.

My names Nancy and I live on the isle of wight with my pets and fiancée. We don't have a good garden for veg growing so the most I normally manage is chilli's in pots on the windowsill at the moment. Though I've grown tomatoes and peas in the past as well. I'm hoping to find a good plot of land I can use somewhere else in the near future.
My specialty is turning the veg into things like chutney to preserve large amounts before they go off. Look forward to reading about everyone else's vegetables anyway and will hopefully share some pictures of my chilli's if they grow this year.

hi nancy, welcome to the vine

my missus loves making the chutneys and pickles .... it's something i always wanted to do, but no motivation until we met last year .... she makes a lovely tomato and chilli "jam" .... and got loads of other chutneys under the stairs .... wish she'd start a blog to share the recipes!

Hello and welcome from another newbie. They are a friendly bunch, in a pleasantly bonkers kind of way.

I'm a chutney and pickle head, too.

Hi Nancy and welcome to the site, i like the idea of making chutneys - but just haven't picked up the courage - due to the last attempt (the house stunk of vinegar for a week ), i would love to see some of your recipes though!(maybe you could put some on the 'making the most' section).

Hi Nancy and welcome to the Vine - big wave from over the water in Christchurch. I see the Needles every time I walk on the beach.

Squidoo is a site where you create pages about things that interest you and share knowledge and such, they call the pages lenses It's actually quite addictive once you get started. I like making chutney and other pickles to preserve vegetables or fruit mainly, but they are nice to have to go with cheese and things like that.
I live on the opposite side of the island to the Needles but still see them occasionally when I'm over that way.

Hi Nancy, don't think I'd see the needles even from the top of the mountain out back here.

Welcome, and I should look at the preseves and chutney recipes but I'm afraid of them. I'm one of those cooks who hates messing with cooking. I've only come into my own since 'chuck it in and see how it goes' has become popular. Well it's popular in my house because they getting fed I guess.

I have a fear that chutney and preserves require a lot of ingredients, taking temperatures, and a whole lot of stirring. I like stirring, but not in the kitchen.
