  • Hello from Gateshead!

    Hello all!

Found this forum while looking for advice on growing lemongrass - I found some reduced at the supermarket and thought I'd give it a whirl.

I moved to the North East about 6 years ago. I have 2 kids (one is 5 and the other 6 months).

I moved into a house that actually has a garden a couple of years ago that even has a greenhouse left in it (albeit with a couple of broken panes that I really should get around to fixing!) So I am quite keen on getting the garden to look better - it was really overgrown when we moved in and there was a really tall conifer hedge across the front garden blocking all the light that should shine into our front room. My hubby managed to get all the trees and roots out and basically I've pulled out most of the stuff that was left behind (lots of overgrown tangled roses, bramble etc...) and am starting afresh.

I have also been dabbling in growing fruit and veg so might have a few questions about them too. Hope you don't mind!

    Liz

    Hi Liz and welcome.
I root lemon grass in a glass of water (just deep enough to cover the base of the stalk) and wait, and wait, and wait....................
Eventually roots appear and it can be potted up.
We lurve questions and there's always someone who knows the answer. Usually there are 6 people who know 6 different answers

            Welcome to the Vine.
I have a lovely big tub of lemongrass that spends the summer outide and stands on the floor in the kitchen in the winter. It is sulking at the moment as it was three degrees the other night anf I left it outside. Oops.

Thanks for the welcome :-) I do hope the lemongrass decides to root in the end. It smells lovely.

I did go through a phase of trying to make the majority of my back garden edible but am now adding some other plants too to try and attract more bees etc...

I'll try and add some pics somewhere. I do blog about it (and lots of other things too) very occasionally but at the moment diy in the house and my kids are keeping me quite busy.
