  • Greetings from Wiltshire

Have recently inherited some allotments from my Father, 3 in all which is a bit much for me, so will be reducing it down to two. There is a nice shed which I helped build a few years ago, a few water butts, compost heap ect, and around 600yards walk from home so its a simple decision to keep them on really.
I have been growing veg for a few years in a small home plot and have had an allotment in the past so its not new to me, though have lots to learn still. I have decided that I want to grow and save seeds from heritage crops this time round for all the obvious reasons, and this forum particularly appealed as there is an active seed saving comunity that I can hopefully join in with, learn from and be a part of. Saving seeds is new to me, apart from the basic peas, beans, shallots and garlic that most people do. So have plenty to read up on and to practice. Look forward to learning from you all and reducing my seed bill down to ...well zero really over time.

Thanks for the link, bought a few packs of seeds from them earlier this year and have had a good read of their site, it was where the inspiration to save my own seed came from really, bought mostly bi-annuals so will get some seed next year hopefully, with which I hope to join in the saving circle with. Saved some seed from some nice brown onions this year, my Father was impressed with them on a trip to Linconshire so grew some for seed which I have recently harvested, just drying the heads indoors now before having a go at extracting some seed. No idea of their history, so may not grow true to type, probably not worth sharing for this reason, but a good learning experience for future crops I guess.
