I know exactly what you mean about the secateurs - and the spade, trowel etc. Bit like my reading glasses in the house! 6 pairs at the last count and they all end up in the same place within days.
This old cottage was built part way up an ancient sea cliff. The rock is still exposed in some places - so that's a rock face garden. One side of the back garden is wooded, so that is meandering paths (more like goat tracks) and I've put some terraces in there for veggies. The other side of the garden has been terraced with railway sleeper steps. There are over 200 steps in the garden and there is no road access to the house so everything has to be carried up the first 58 steps! Who needs to join a gym?
And for those readers who believe I live in Cardiff - I do half the time but this is my other house further west in Sunny South Wales! Confused??

It sounds fabulous but very, very hard work. We used sleepers to build some raised beds and it nearly killed my poor (younger!) husband just lugging them up our steps, I can't imagine how difficult it was in your garden. I'll definitely be looking to you for advice on hillside gardening.
