Hello All this is my first time on The Grapevine.I've been growing fruit and veg for 37 years and i'm still learning.
I grew celery for the first time last year[self blanching]and was not to impressed with the flavour.This year i'm growing Hopkins Fenlander[trenching variety]anyone give me some advice on how to treat these babies?

its my first time also on the grapevine. I have always loved gardening and pottered about in my garden but last year took an allotment on. I find it most rewarding but learning all the time from my new friends on the plot.

Due to clearing the plot last year i only grew a small amount. but this year i am trying lots of different things.

Hi Cloud - I've been growing for the same amount of time - we must be a similar vintage! I haven't ever grown celery I'm afraid - can't stand the stuff! Not much help am I?

Welcome to the Vine Cloud and Rosebud. I'm sure you've got lots to telll us and help us with.
I love celery but haven't grown the variety you want info on. Last year my self blanching celery did fine as it's mostly the leaves I'm interested in.
For other celery flavoured leaves you might want to try Lovage or Parcel (it's like parsley but celery flavoured)

hi cloud, I'm a first time gardener and grapevine user, looks like you will be able to offer some good advice with your experience, I was never allowed to touch our garden as a child and at 33 have decided it's about time i learnt, so having 3 willing weeders as a family we are learning together, hope we last as long as you!!

I think its great that children get involved,my youngest daughter takes an intrest and as a result all the kids in her class talk about it.

i thinks its brilliant kids in the garden. my 5 year old loves coming to our allotment . we constructed a bean wigwam for him and he has his own patch. he also like to jump all over the woodpile. he's getting fresh air, excerise and also learning were fruit & veg comes from. he also said that if we grow something he normally dosnt eat he will try it because we grew it. so its a step in the right direction

37 years, is that all ..........

No, can't quite make that but at least 25 I think.

I'm still learning, still growing new things and it's when people stop that they sort of go off I think, loose the plot, start to vegitate .........

Sorry for the puns, it's late and I still have to do the watering now J's finished the July pruning for the kiwis.
