    Types of mint - How popular are they?

    I acquired a few mint plants towards the end of last year; strawberry mint, chocolate mint, and apple mint. For pots, not the ground. More for the novelty really - something a bit different, and the smell. Not sure how I'd use the leaves. The commonest suggestion seems to be in the flavouring of summer drinks.

    There seems to be a lot of variations of standard mint around now.
    I wondered which ones were the most popular... ?
    (And how the different types are used).

    There's a bit of diversity with other herbs, but I don't think as much as with the mint.

    I have a few different ones to you Philthy -
    Moroccan (small leaves -used for mint tea),
    Basil (strong perfumey smell),
    Pineapple (variegated, slightly furry leaf Attractive but I don't really like the smell)
    One I call Skopelos mint as I grew it from a sprig given to me a Greek lady who was sitting outside her door, shelling beans. A perfumed mint - just one sniff takes me back to that beautiful island.
    Spearmint
    Another variegated mint but with smooth leaves.
    A couple of "ordinary" ones.

    Also Chocolate and Apple, if they've survived the winter.

    I lurve the mints

      Peppermint is quite good, too (spearmint is the common or garden mint), as is Eau de cologne mint. My fave is probably banana mint (tender).
