  • Parsley - Yellowing foliage - growing smaller

I just can't seem to grow this darn plant with much success. I bought from a local market a nursery grown parsley plant in good health. The guy said it had been grown on a traditional nursery, not the supermarket type. I potted it on in veg growing compost and it has done well until lately the leaves from the bottom up are going yellow, paler green and dying. Also, the plant is growing a bit smaller. Not over/under watering in a sunny windowsill. Only the very top are still green. The stem of the plant is pretty strong and healthy. The photo here makes it look better than it actually is.

Any idea what I can do to restore health and beef it up please ?

The yellow leaves are just old ones - this is normal, I would suggest re-potting in fresh compost in a bigger pot

I think you might have been 'had'. It looks to me as if the plant is going to seed. They are biannual and after flowering die. The stem is the flower developing. I would start again it's not too late to sow seed. The seed needs rapid changes of temperature to germinate so water once with hot water and that should give them the necessary kick.

I was just about to say the same as Roitelet. That thick main stem looks like it's going to seed. When did you get the plant, last year? Start off some seed now on your kitchen window sill, flat leaf parsley is lovely.

I agree - its going to flower. If you bought it last year that would be normal.
If you have room in the garden, plant it and let it flower. With luck it will self seed and you'll have more plants to keep you in parsley

I just don't have much luck do I. Even bought stuff fails. The guy I bought it from at the beginning of April assured me it is a nursery grown parsley. I could let it flower and seed in the garden and hopefully the seeds will grow. Fortunately I have flat leaf that has germinated.

IMHO if you like parsley and have the room plant it out and let it go to seed. You will be rewarded with tons of parsley. Also if you like thyme do likewise, it is delish from your own plot!
