I have tried all my faves, thought they were easy. I have these little window herb pots and do as the packet says and most of the time a few will pop up but then they will slowly die. I have tried so many places in the house, mainly kitchen and dinning room but nothing seems to grow much.

How big do the herbs get before they start dying? I'm wondering whether they outgrow the pots and should be moved to bigger pots. -

If you're growing them at the moment, it might just be too cold for them.. windowsills get pretty cold at night.I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!Comment

Now I have mint (seems okish) basil and parsley. I had loads of left overs and stuck them in a big planter... outside, I shouldn't of done it really, I doubt they will grow seeing as you just reminded me about the cold. My herbs grow about 2inches I guess then fall over

Outside is no use for herbs at this time of year Herby. Most of them like it warm and sunny. Parsley and mint will be OK but the rest want better conditions.
I've never managed to grow basil outside - definitely a greenhouse or windowsill job.

Cheers... we can but try I spose. I guess with all the nice sun we have been having down here I have gotten a bit to carried away! I can always pop in to Poundland and but some cheapies again in another month or so.

Far too early for basil or any of the tender herbs. The mint should be ok tho I never grow from seed, buy a well rooted plant and then use that - just remember to plant it in the pot or you'll only have mint in your window box.
Parsley should be ok too, not invasive. If you want another herb that will look after itself, try the French tarragon (not and never the Russian) because it's a bit like mint, will look after itself - mine stays out all winter and sometimes it gets -10 here.TonyF, Dordogne 24220Comment

I remember your parsley a few weeks ago was weedy and thin like mine.... well I potted mine up when it got its first true leaves, and put them in the plastic greenhouse (south facing so fairly warm).

Thanks all. I really wanna grow those I use the most which is mint, thyme, rosemary, basil and oregano. I will wait a little while longer be planting any more.Follow my garden and chilli growing project... @impatientgrowerComment
