Does anyone have any experience of growing hyssop? I planted it in my allotment for the first time, and while it had been doing well, seemingly, in a smallish pot, it's now looking much less happy than it was, although not having grown hyssop before, I'm not sure whether it's SUPPOSED to look quite so forlorn. Any tips for protecting it over the winter, if indeed it needs protecting?

I just pruned mine down yesterday, they do start looking a bit worse for ware at this time of year but they will come back next year. I don't use any protection either. -
No protection here either - and we get somewhat harsher winters here on the continent: minus eighteen is not all that uncommon. Hyssop will be buried in snow and frozen to the marrow without even batting an eye. I love it.
PS. I don't have mine in pots, though. I'd recommend planting it out, or at least putting the pot into the soil until spring so it doesn't get cold feet

Same for me...in the ground, pruned back, no special treatment.
We always get bouts of -18C and it pulls through ....so far

This all sounds encouraging - maybe there's hope yet! It's a fairly young plant, not very big at all. But I'm fussing over it too much, I think!Comment
