  • Basil Question

I have tried growing Basil in the past and never succeeded but this year I planted some seeds and I've now got a couple of really strong plants about 8 inches (20cm) high on my windowsill. They have just got a single strong stem. Should I pinch them out to encourage bushiness. Eventually I intend to plant them out into the border in the tomato greenhouse. How tender are they?

I really don't want to kill them when at the moment they really look healthy.

I would pinch them out it will make them bushier. Mine are still in the green house. Some will eventually end up in the herb bed but not till the weather is better. They are tender. I managed to over winter I plant on the kitchen widow sill this year. It was looking very pale and kept trying to flower. I repotted it and picked of the flowers as soon as they appeared and it seems to have settled down now
Dogs have masters, cats have slaves, and horses are just wonderful

If you pinch them out put the tops in water then pot them on once they've rooted. it as easy way to get more plants.
