Default Borage

I planted some borage seeds about a month ago, they started sprouting and got to about an inch high, then for some reason half of the stalk between the soil and the leaves went brown and dried out

What did I do wrong?

Dunno. They say you only need to buy borage once. It comes up in my veg patch every year - I moved some today into a big pot till I decide where it's going. It self seeds outdoors - did you sow indoors? Maybe it's too hot for them.

Last year it took me months to get borage to grow from seeds, I lost count of the number of times I tried and then all of a sudden I had 2 big plants seeding everywhere. I think the ones that survived were sown outside towards the end of April.
