Default Growing Tea

Can tea be grown here? I drink green tea quite a bit, and wondered if I might be able to grow mine own supplies....

Anyone tried before?

It's a kind of Camellia so maybe it would cope. Just don't plant the tea-bags too deep!

You see, before I get to how deep to plant them, I first have to decide which variety - round, pyramid, good old fashioned square, or wether to go for paper or those new nylon ones....

Typhoo, Ringtons or Netto's own must also be considered!

If you want a superior plant best use Twinings

Can you recommend a blend of Twinnings suitable for the Scottish climate?

When I decided to reduce my food miles I allowed myself four 'essentials' These were; tea, coffee, red wine and um, Beverley Hills toothpaste. If I can grow the tea maybe I could one day have an orange again?

.

I think you should be able to grow the real tea tree, saw it once on the BBC gardeners program. and like Flum said if Camelia can make it in UK so as tea tree ( not the darjeeling tea bag please...he he he). All the Best HW, keep us posted if you change your mind...

And there's Nettle tea , lots of nettles about so you don't even have to grow them yourself. BTW I think Jungle Seeds sells the seeds for growing tea bush.

Does it taste good Veg ? must be nitrogen and mineral rich tea . I don't know if I would drink it... but cammomile, I love it...last year grow my own and harvest loads of them but it is very time consuming ( each and every small flower to be hand pick)...

I daren't try it! I've seen them sold in health food stores. I can drink jasmin and flower ending with 'mum' (can't spell!) tea.

HW,

The other tea ( herbal) option will be : mint, lemon balm, fennel, dill, calendula ( petal), corn flower(petal), rose ( petal), black berry ( leaves), lingon berry( leaves)... strawberry (leaves).
All the best,
Momol
