Default European Cultivated Potato Database

Whilst trying to answer a vine members question about spuds I stumbled on this interesting site:-

The European Cultivated Potato Database

One of the cool things you can do ( if you use the search then edit command) is find out your favourite potatoes parentage and lineage!

I tried Desiree which is apparently a Dutch variety derived from a cross between Urgenta and Depesche. On looking up Depesche I found it was a cross between Duke of York and Imposant! I think it's amasing that two of my favourite varieties ie Desiree and Duke of York are related.

Do give it a try with your favourite spud and find out if it has any other well known spuds in it's lineage?

I think this really is a fascinating site, or do I need to get out more?
