  • How old is Grow Your Own?

Just been wondering: How long Grow Your Own mag has been on the go? Also, 'other' gardening mags regularly appear at gardening shows ie the ones I go to at Harrogate and Southport and have lively stands and, sometimes, gardening fora, but I've never yet seen one for our beloved mag. Could anyone enlighten me on these two questions, please?...

    Anyone?...

Not really sure about how long.

I have issues from 2006 but I remember my Dad buying it or something similar when I was young. Some 30 odd years ago.

    Any advances???

      I'm not so sure.
The magazine was already out when this forum started back in August ( I think) 2005 when I joined.
"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

      Location....Normandy France

Can't see a date on it - just Launch Issue. However, it says next issue on sale April 1 2005 so I guess it was sold in March 2005 but covers advice for April
What confused me then - and still does is - how did they have Reader's letters when there wasn't a magazine to read

They had a cunning plan of some sort, obviously LOL

eg your first on the list-of-things-to-do when you got a job there was to write a letter to someone else who'd just started

The freeseeds were Parmex carrots and Romanesco caulis. I think I still have those

I used to have a load of old mags from the first 2 or 3 years but had a big throw out earlier this year as my clutter was totally out of hand so now just have a couple of folders with articles I particularly wanted to keep but seem to remember I bought it after it had only been going a short while and joined the forum almost immediately. Re mag stands, I was at Tatton Show yesterday and didn't really notice any general magazine stands although obviously they were hoping you'd join the RHS so they were prominent. Could have been other stuff but I was there more for the gardens so might not have noticed. Have been to Gardeners World Show in years gone by and that pushed the BBC related mags and you can usually buy old copies or multiple copies for a discount price but that's all I can think off. Never been to Harrogate or Southport (well I have but not when the shows are on) so can't compare.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
