  • December / January Potato Growing Kit !!!!!

    Did any of you order the Potato Growing Kit that was on offer through Thompson & Morgan in December / January edition of GYO? If so don't expect it to arrive soon.

    It was supposes to be despatched in February and as I hadn't received it I called T&G only to be told that there was an error in the print time as this offer was due to be in GYO in June.

    Both GYO and T&G were aware of the mistake yet both did not bother to inform the readers that had ordered the kit. A small note in the magazine would not have take up much advertising space and T&G could easily have e-mailed all those who had ordered the kit to advise them of the change of despatch time and of course the error but neither could be bothered.

    Very disappointing treatment to their readers and customers.

    How annoying! Are the potatoes for growing this season or are they the so called "Christmas potatoes"? I didn't order but certainly wouldn't have wanted any of the late cropping potatoes. T&M's flexible delivery times have been discussed several times on here, and rarely in positive terms! Can you cancel and get a refund? Still time to get some from the garden centre.

        @WendyC,

        They were to be despatched in February I would have expected then to be for 'early planting'. I was offered a refund by T&M, to their credit, but the kit will be welcome in June.

        It is just the way both GYO and T&M have handled this error, by totally ignoring both readers and customers.

        Anyway the sun is out and I've been in the garden so all is well......

            As there was no Customer Service contact for the magazine I e-mailed the editor Lucy Halsall for her comments, needless to say she has not bothered to reply.

              Hi, we’re really sorry about the potato growing kit problems you’ve been having – we think this was in the February issue of the magazine? We’ve received a few emails about this, too, and have been asking the offer organisers to respond directly as we’re not able to check the order details ourselves. We weren’t aware of any errors with the offer details at the time of going to press, and we’re now waiting for a response from Thompson & Morgan for you.

                You are correct that the offer was in the February edition, I have dug out the magazine my mistake.

                You post that GYO were unaware of the error, I was informed by T&M that they contacted GYO when the magazine was released to inform them that this offer due to go out in June and not February/March.

                You also post that you have received a 'few' e-mails about this, who were the e-mails addressed to as there is no reader/customer contact details? I had to e-mail the Editor who has yet to reply. I am sure she is a very busy lady but do you not think I should get a reply if only to tell me to 'get lost'

                  Make that pic bigger & note the estimated dispatch date,now that makes me wonder about the statement they made to you that it was not due for magazine publication until June

                    In the offer that you have shown you are correct that the delivery date is for April but this is different to the one on the mag cover offer, it was February - March 2014.

                    I received a reply to my e-mail from the Editor, Lucy Halsall, it seems that both T&M and GYO are blaming each other for the error and who should contact those readers that had ordered the kit! IMHO both have let us down.


                    The outcome being that T&M will despatch the kit in June, refund available if required.

                      I understand that to mean sometime after March.............maybe April

                        Either it should be "February 2014 onwards" or "February - March 2014" surely?

                        "February - March 2014 onwards" is just cover your front, back and both sides surely?

                          That's possible, maybe April!

                          Do you not think that 'ONWARDS' with a proposed delivery date of 'JUNE' is stretching 'ONWARDS' just a little bit?

                          Maybe not!!!!!!!

                          Anyway as I have posted delivery date of June, refund from T&M if required.

                            Hi all, just to reiterate that Grow Your Own was not informed of any mistake with the offer. We have now had an apology from Thompson & Morgan for giving confusing information that lead customers to believe that Grow Your Own was in any way responsible or informed about their stocking issues. Thompson and Morgan have also offered this apology to any readers taking up the offer:

                            “We would like to sincerely apologise for the delivery delay that readers have experienced with our Free Potatoes offer. Unfortunately we were unable to deliver all orders within the month advised. We have been trying to obtain more stock as quickly as possible, and can now confirm that any remaining orders should be despatched by the end of April.

                            Please contact Thompson & Morgan at ccare@thompson-morgan.com if you require any further help or advice on your order.”

                              I find it hard to understand why a member of the T&M customer support team would give me such detailed information! He was extremely clear with his explanation, hence one of my reasons for joining and posting on this forum. The other being that there was no readers contact details for GYO.

                              The guy was reading from what he had on file in front of him which was associated to my order, are you trying to say that what I was told was not true? Or perhaps he gave out too much information?

                              I just wonder if it is really worth all this trouble for a £5.95 plastic bag with 5 seed potato's and a few seeds that I never use? I think not! I'll know for a next time.

                              I shall wait for my delivery in April..... Or is it June?
