Default Traditional Sussex Trug!

Anyone any recommendations as to where I can get a wooden type onme for a reasonable price, prefferably locally to Manchester?

I've been looking in the GC's and hereabouts, but nothing other than the overpriced plastic monstrosities seem to be available!

Help please!

It would be a manchester trug if it was local to you I've seen them on the HDRA website but they aren't Cheap - You'll have to go on a course and start making them

I use a Tesco one - forgot to take it out of the trolly and it would be just my luck to get caught taking it back. It's really a wire basket but it thinks it's a trug.

They had some really nice ones in the garden shop (National Trust) at Tatton Park a few weeks ago - they were in the £teens - my mate from Dorset said they were brilliant value. Bernie

Mrs D
The sussex trugs are made not far from where I live, the proper handmade ones start at £35, I see on one of the websites that he's not taking any more orders as has a backlog caused by tennis elbow!
I should add it to your Christmas list at that price!
best wishes
Sue

Hi Mrs D. i ws given one from dearest Mr EB for birthday/christmas. He paid over £40 at a local garden centre which is renowned for being a bit on the pricier side but twas the only one that stocked it. Bless him he has also bought me a tin of yacht varnish to protect it with. I've been too busy so far this year to get the varnish out so it hasn't been used and is beginning to sulk methinks LOL!

Cool, thanks for the replies everyone! I'll try and persuade Mr D that a trip to Tatton would be a nice day out whilst on hols (only went a few weeks ago tho), and if no luck then will add it to our Yule list!

EB, the yacht varnish is a great idea, many thanks for that!

Mrs D, have you tried the Crocus website? They had a trug made out of willow on half price offer (a tenner I THINK), not quite what you're asking for I know but might be worth a look?

Mrs D,

Not an authentic trug by any means, but if you just want a trug try the following web-site they are incredibly cheap for willow trugs. (hope gyo dont mind me posting this..)

www.hotplantco.co.uk - Their trugs are willow baskets really but value for money is pretty good.

If you want the authentic trug you can get them on ebay but the postage costs normally outweigh the advantage.
