Hubby is showing a renewed interest in Astronomy, so I'm thinking of getting him a second-hand Telescope. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice, please?

Several years ago i bought one for my daughter, she was around 11 at the time.
Anyway, i paid 70 odd pound for it in Lidl , bad news is i had to put it together myself and untill this day i dont know if it worked properly , all i know for certain is her stargazing interest didnt last long lol, but she was approaching those teenage years...........
Anyway, my point being, make sure the one you buy is complete and not a diy chuck it together yourself job, all i can offer im afraid .Comment

Obviously I've done the usual g**gling, and there's a lot of variation in product size, price and features, as you would expect. Hence my decision to pop in here and pick your collective brain.

We have a fairly basic one.
However, the one thing I really wished we'd gone for is one which has an electrical motor for moving it up, down, side to side.
Our manual one is soooo frustrating. You have whatever in full view, then as you lock it into position the darn thing moves...not a lot, but enough to lose what you had in sight.
What have you got in mind?

Ha! Yeah, I really need another forum...
I don't have the feintest idea of what he needs (refract/reflect) but I don't suspect he'll be wanting to take pictures. Most folk I know that have/had one say they bought too cheap/expensive. The former being no good, the latter, too complicated.
He just likes looking, and trying to work out what is what from comparing against an app on his tablet. I expect it'll be a short-lived hobby. All the best - Glutton 4 Punishment
