  • Small composter

I have a dalek which is full and I now need to start a new compost heap. The drawback is that I only have a space of about 600 mm to fit one in. I know small is not as good at heating up but does anyone know where I can get one?

If you have the time, materials, ability and inclination you could strip the wood off pallets and build one out of that.

I've a couple similar to this

which I bought at JTF. For this type of bin I'd advise tying a rope around it as the connections can pop open when turning the compost with an aerator. I also push canes down through the rope, in front of the hatch and and into the ground to stop the hatch constantly popping off.

You could use a bin & drill holes down the side, this ones 80litres,467mm-most shops sell them, some lids stay on tighter than others if you want to roll it on the ground?

Thanks Jungle Jane what a splendid idea. Nice to see people thinking outside the box. It's on my shopping list tomorrow.

Alternatively black bags, stuff them with the compostables and stack them in your space. When the composter is either done or settled down allowing more space you can add more from the bag(s). that way nothing gets lost or wasted and they will fit the space available.
