Hi! Not sure about a heated mat, but Aldi sells a pretty cheap windowsill heated propagator every year. Lidl also sells every year propagators, but I don't know if they had a reasonable price, but hopefully someone will.

I just use a heated mat from a pet store - the sort you put under aqu/vivaria or even fermenting bins. Price depends on size but 12-20 quid.

I've got a propagator for starting the actual seeds off, though which cost about £30. The mat is just for a bit of extra once the plants are out of it. Bottom heat gets roots (well that's what I remember reading somewhere - I hope!) and my house is cold.

If I had the money I would spend it on a propagator that had a thermostat.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!

Heated propagators are more widely used than mats, and there are loads of old threads on the subject, which might help you:

        (I got mine from ebAy)

However, I won't be switching mine on for at least another 2 months
