Hi Soobeth, good to see you back on the vine. You can get heated propagators, which are good for things like tomatoes and chillies and marrows/courgettes. They consist of a bottom tray which has a heating element in, and a clear plastic lid (usually with air vents). You plug in to the mains and away you go. Some are thermostatically controlled so you can set the temperature, the cheaper ones just provide bottom heat. Depends what you want to germinate. You can also buy (or make) an unheated propagator by covering an ordinary pot or tray with a clear plastic lid. This improves humidity which is good for germinating seeds and rooting certain types of cuttings. However you do have to be careful to let enough air through, or everything will rot. Most vegetable seeds will germinate without artificial heat, and things like lettuce won't germinate at all if the temperature is too high.

I've never used (or needed) a propagator. Today I sowed about a thousand seeds, in trays with cling film or a clear plastic back to keep in moisture until the seedlings emerge.

I guess you'd need a heated prop if you're going to grow more 'tropical' plants, early in the year, or of course if you're oop north.
