| Go for some wellies Shortie, not only do they do the job, but make you feel like a proper gardenener to boot too! ![]() I've several pairs of walking boots that I used to use when we first started on our plot, (including some German Para Boots that are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, and are fab for hill walking too!) but they are just a little too much bother, especially when you want to go home at the end of a long day, wellies just slip off, boots have to be de-laced first!

| Try rigger boots shortie, they are waterproof like wellies but are generally lined and therefore are much warmer and more comfortable than wellies.

| Cheapo Dunlop Originals from Wyevale, 3/4 leg length, very comfy and have a heel tag that makes it easy to get them off when covered in muck! ![]()

| Agree with the above post about rigger boots - mine are an old site pair with fur lining, a bit tatty looking now but snug and warm and have the added benefit that they're safety shoes so I don't need to worry about dropping things on my toe - probably not a problem for most of you but I'm a clumsy type at times! Too warm for summer but it tends to be drier then so make use with an old pair of trainers or a pair of those gardening clogs somebody bought me last year, very handy if you need to nip out the back to harvest etc but probably not so useful on the lotty.

| I have rigger boots too for work and they are my boot of choice for dry or damp conditions, and they are easy to get on and off - no wet and muddy laces to deal with at the end of the day. I stand in water all day at work so wellies are best for me -have steel toecapped safety pair for work and a pair of Chameau wellies that I was given by the laird of a castle I worked at for eighteen months - they are used in the garden - dead warm and comfy and leather lined with full length zip - however, if I had to buy them I could not possibly justift the near £200 price tag. ![]()

| Never knew you could buy wellies for £200! How the other half live eh? Never had a freebie like that with my work.

| I use Riggers as well. Handy as they have a steel plate in the bottom so no problems with Nails coming thru the bottom & steel toe caps.

| Hey Shortie, someone else with little feet like me! I take a 2 or 3 depending on the make of shoe & have a terrible time going round trying on shoes till I get ones to fit, lots of wellies & things only start at 4 now as well which means extra thick socks! I quite often wear a pair of pull on 'chelsea boot' style shoes made out of 'welly' rubber which I bought a couple of years ago from Lidl. I think they were only about £3 & they are great unless it's really wet & muddy & you don't want to get your jeans/trousers dirty & then I'd wear wellies.

| I have the other end of the problem ie big feet, not a problem for wellies etc but those really cute sparkly numbers which look great in smaller sizes just look plain daft in size 7!

| I have small feet too (size 3) and hellish difficult to get something to fit. I LIVE in my wellies, both at work and in the garden. I got Hunters size 4 and only have to wear one pair of socks in them Shortie! If you've got small feet don't go for anything with steel toe caps. I had to get them for work (Dr Ms with steel toe caps) and although they are a size 3, the steel toe cap is the same size as a size 11! I can hardly walk in the things as the toe cap comes half way up my foot. Last edited by JennieAtkinson; 27-11-2006 at 11:49 PM. |
