I'm looking at getting some bird feeders, both for teh garden and plot, and I spotted this: The Wild Store - Online shop - Recycled Bottle Bird Feeder Kit
which I thought was a great idea.

Anyone got them?

I have squirrels in the garden, which I'd rather dissuade from eating the seeds (they have enough with all the acorns and berries), just wondered if it's at all squirrel proof.

If your squirrels are anything like mine it would have to be a glass bottle, preferably still hot from the kiln to even put them off slightly! Mine squeeze through the bars of an (allegedly) squirrel proof feeder. Fun walking down the garden and seeing them trying to wriggle out quickly though - bit of a Pooh in Rabbit's warren thing really.

But, back to the subject - these look great, and wouldn't need filling so often.

I suspect the squirrels would tear it to bits and then jump up and down on the bits while cackling maniacally. buggers

Mine have stood up to the squirels but the do tend to chew away at the feeder bit. The only problem I've found with this type is getting the seed into it in the first place. Even with a funnel the neck is a bit too narrow.

Our badgers would tear them to shreds. Only proper steel bars stop them: wire netting is used to sharpen their teeth.

Watched one do it one nght: quite impressive. It triggered our back garden security lamp but continued munching. Now all our feeders are stainless steel:-(

I was thinking of suspending it on one of those shepherd crook type things...

squirrels can climb them - as can rats and mice. My garden is so full of wildlife

ah ah, I have considered getting armed guards in a very pc kind of way of course before I offend anyone out there who doesn't know my warped sense of humour yet. electric trip wire is a good one to. Failing that give in gracefully and admire their ingenuity and brains and wish you were half as clever! I do. lol
