  • Your 'final' shopping list?

Having in the past few days bought a blowaway, Charlotte potatoes, shallots and red onion sets, I was a good girl yesterday and went through all my seeds to make my FINAL shopping list for 2015.... And really want to try and stick to it!

I'm sure there will be the occasional impulse purchase, but I'm going to try to resist.

My 'final' list is as follows...

Broad been seeds...Yep, a bit late I know!
    peas
leek seedlings ( we can get 100 bare rooted- the size of a pencil for less than £4 )
maybe 2 yellow courgette plants if my seeds don't germinate ( old seed)

apart from that, I really don't need anything else!

my one impulse purchase could be a rhubarb plant I spotted the other day.

Is your list ready...and do you think you can resist anything else ....or is resistance futile?

You won't stick to it! Little plants just call out to you in that darling voice saying "Pleeeeeeese take me home with you, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese".

Since joining this forum my list has grown, but it is actually a good thing. I sat in the garden yesterday thinking about all the things I have gained in a few months. Although none were essential or expensive they will all make a difference As for seeds I tried to tell myself that 14th Feb was my cut off day for this season

My Father hated the word "Goodbye". He said it sounded like we were never coming back.
For the same reasons, I will never make a "final" shopping list.

There's still loads to buy but I don't know that I need it until I see it - or can't find the one I already have.

              My list was complete.
              Finished.
              Absolutely.

Then yesterday I blew the holiday fund on 3 hundred quid of fence.
And today I'm looking at cuprinol pretty paint colours.

              And climbers. I'll need climbers.

And now that the dogs can't reach it, I'll need a pretty birdbath.

              And a pond.
              With lighting.
              And a little solar fountain.

              A hammock?

I think we have a ghost or..... well I sorted out my seeds into relavent piles - inddor, outdoor, do now sort of thing. I vaguely remember putting a lot of my seeds somewhere else other than my stuffed to capacity seed box - do you think I can find them - nope! I might just have thrown them away with the ancient seeds I could'nt use so....
I have ordered myself replacements for all the ones that have been spirited away/put away for safety and never to be seen again/thrown in the bin/the dog ate them.
It might not be so bad but I found myself completely parsnip, sugar snap, radish, lettuce, turnip and beetroot less.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

There is never a final shopping list when you are a gardener. Can never resist a bargain or say no, it would be rude to.
The thing is you buy stuff in spring/summer because you need them. You buy stuff in autumn/winter because you might need them next year.
You can never have enough seeds, compost, tools or things you don't remember buying, they are the best because its a total surprise when you find them its like getting an unexpected present.

You've a fence to build - and paint, climbers to plant, a pond to dig, lights to set up, seeds to sow, dogs to walk - and you think you're going to have TIME to sit in a hammock!!??

Maybe you could sleep in it overnight so you can get a really early start the next morning?

We have a hammock, it is essential kit.

If you'd asked me before the OH purchased it I would have said, not on your nelly. But, once you have one there is no going back. My little boy calls it the pea pod as it looks like a pod of peas when he is in it.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

Or it's David Austin roses at reduced prices, or more seeds.
