Got to be tomatoes for me - even though grandson pinches most of them. You can't beat picking a tomato straight off the vine and eating it warm from the sunshine.

lol i dont think i ever have i grow mine outside and with most stuff i encourage my kids to eat it all different story next year i hope with my allotment and hopefully 2 greenhouses

Can I choose 2 please?
1. Tomatoes, as Rusty says, because you can't beat the flavour of a sun ripened tomato.
2. Raspberries - for the pleasure of browsing on them, the way they melt in your mouth and the flavour bursts out. Long season too from early summer to late autumn.

you most certainly can choose 2 i should have posted the title as 'things' not 'thing'
a close second for me has to be cut and come again lettuce as again not alot of work and plentiful rewards on a sunny window sill i cant wait to try to grow lettuce on the allotment maybe even getting to harvest one with a head and not just a few leaves

I cannot pick one I'm afraid, but in order of preference

1. Tomatoes, as per RL's reasons - but this year has been abysmal for me

2. Peas, same reasons again - most don't make it home

3. Potatoes, that first earthy taste mixed with butteriness (is that a word) and they are like digging for treasure

4. Strawberries/Raspberries - same as peas

I need 2 as well.

1) Winter Squash - I love them. Ever since growing crown prince, I was hooked.

2) Sweetcorn. Have you ever eaten sweetcorn straight from the plant? Amazing

I think I get more joy out of what I gather rather than grow, I do love the flavour of a warm freshly picked tom, but it doesn't compare to finding a patch of wild strawberries, or collecting a handful of cobnuts.

Its probably the hunter gatherer ingrained in me...

5. Sweetcorn - kids want more as soon as they've eaten it. I never grow enough. I need to stagger sow/plant.

Thinking about it, theveg/fruit I like the best are the ones that need no preparation. That you can pick and eat immediately. I'm a grazer

I think it's got to be pumpkins. I just love seeing the children going to check on them every time they come, and the smiles on their faces at Halloween harvest

With this being my first year of 'proper growing' I have a limited selection to choose from, but I think just for sheer taste it will have to be French Beans, followed by All Year Round lettuce and Pak Choi.

Definitely growing much more of all three again next year

I love everything I grow and really enjoy all of it, but my favourites are:

1. Garlic - either in whatever meal I'm cooking or roasted, mixed with butter and stuffed in home made bread you just can't beat it for flavour.

2. Whichever crop surprises me! Whether it's new vegetable, a new type or even the runt seedling which ultimately gives a bumper yield after some tlc - the surprise success is always fantastic.

I grow a lot, I think this year I grew 300 plants in total.. They seem to ripen up at the same time mind, but I can't seem to get on non-F1 seed unfortunately. I've had two replacements from one place, and 1 from real seeds. Not sure if it's my ground, or the area.. Bit strange considering I'm in the same region as RS. I am quite exposed though.

Anyway, my point in replying- if you literally freeze as soon as you've picked it (I don't bother with blanching anything) it keeps quite well - I strip the leaves off, top and tail the cob, sometimes split in two if it's a large one and then literally straight into the freezer - I'm a minute drive away from my plot so they're in my freezer within 2-3 mins

My next big task is digging up a channel in my driveway to run power to my garage to get a chest freezer in there! I love it, and if I could, I'd devote a whole plot to it and squash
