  • Are you all warm enough folks??

I was just thinking back to last winter when I was really cold inside the house, before we updated our heating systems- and thought about other peeps not as lucky as me.
So- I thought I'd check up on you all- and ask what peeps have been doing to keep warm ( keep it clean)

I have an extra blanket on the bed and a hottie.I've jammed all draughty window/door jams with paper and made a note of where to fit more insulation tape ( I thought I'd done a decent job last year- but clearly not!).
I'm wearing a thick outdoor fleece in the house ( last year I needed scalf/hat gloves too- and was still cold)
I'm heating 2 rooms properly and the rest ticking over
I'm having a hot drink every couple oh hours- and drinking it hot rather than leaving it to cool down.
Well that's for starters..what are other peeps doing???

My office is north facing and quite cool even with the heating on high. It's not too bad if I'm hopping about on the phone or fetching files, but if I'm just sitting and working on a spreadsheet or something I do start to feel the chill.

Problem solved as of yesterday, though, when I had an unexpected parcel through the post from dear Bilbo Waggins who kindly send me a brushed cotton lap quilt.

Heating is only ever on 21C max - usually 19.

Always have a hottie in bed, sometimes even in the summer!!
I'd be quite warm at work today if people would just stop opening the front door!!

I'm always cold, even in summer

I've got my nice black M&S thermals on, tights under trousers, thick socks, sometimes a hat but that gives me a headache.

Our sitting room is dark and north facing, and my chair is near the window (so I can see the garden) so I have a blankie on my legs if I'm sitting still.

I try to keep moving, because being still makes me even colder. Even though school is shut today I'll make myself walk to the shop for a paper (2 miles). I've always got house chores to do, so I'm up and down, moving around until I serve dinner at about 7pm.

I have set the thermostat to 15-16 degrees and leaving it on while temp so low outside rather than blasting the house with heat twice a day. (Let it go off overnight though)
Always busy with jobs to do and my couches have blankies along the backs of them if anyone gets chilly of the evening. When temp comes above freezing my heating is off during day.
Plenty of warm drinks and a hot something for lunch.
Snowing heavy right now, but I need to go out and see to chooks, then pop to chemist and pick up prescriptions for elderly lady I clean for and drop them off.
Doing ironing today, that always a warm job and going to check/bleed any radiators that might need it too.

EDIT: sun just come out and is shining in my large living room window (so lucky to have South facing) so have turned heating off as the sunlight warms the room nicely. Also pulled curtains back to let as much light in as possible.

I put up a door Nicos, and that made such a difference. Not a front door, I am rich enough to already have one of those, but in between my front room and the corridor to the third bit of the house there was just a gap.
I made a door, put it up, and lo ... it was much warmer.
I was actually surprised at just how much of a difference it made.

my boiler broke down tonight. We all stayed warm by struggling to get to nursery and work. Waiting for the technician to phone me to have a look at the boiler.

tiachia been there got the tee shirt. I feel really sorry for you. We got ours fixed after 6 days and when it came back I felt in the lap of luxury, sometimes we have to do without something to realise how great it is. Hope it gets fixed soon, keep warm

We have an old house with high ceilings so leave the heating on about 16 deg during day and turn it low to about 10deg for over night. If the house cools right down it takes forever to reheat.
In bed my hottie is my OH he's always a good place to rest my freezing cold feet on !!!!

Its not as cold here as in some place just now its -4 heating is on set to 21 but not sure its actually getting to that temp! Have a halogen fire on on the lounge and my cosy blanket over my legs, when Hb comes in she'll usually lie on the floor with a single quilt over her, problem with this house is the windows need new ones but not able to afford anytime soon, fngers crossed for a lotto win

It was -14 C here in our village when my OH left to go to work this morning, I took the dogs out for an hour and my face was frozen by the time we came back.

Our stove runs our central heating system and I am down to my last half bucket of coal. I REALLY hope the coal man turns up today, gave him a bottle of vodka at Christmas so I live in hope.
