Shops arround here charge 3% extra to buy with credit card.

The bank's also want to charge you to get your own mony out of your bank's "hole in the wall" machine.

It would be. Here ATM's are free and shopsonly charge a bity if you use a card to pay for something less than a fiver.
The last cheque i wrote out was over a year ago, its so easy to use a debit card or online services. As banks do basic accounts for those who have had financial difficulties, which come with a card, what is the issue?

Most places put notices in their stores etc months ago to say that of such and such a date cheques would no longer be accepted. I recently opened a new account and recieved a cheque book, why ????? if I cant use it.

              I use cheques a lot.

The main ones that spring to mind are: milkman, childminder, window cleaner, mobile hairdresser, avon and catalogues.

I don't like to have to remember to get lots of cash out.

They've predicted that by 2018 only 1.5 million cheques per day will be issued - still sounds like a lot of people using them to me.

like most people I dont use them often, but paying for school trips, loading DD lunch account, girl guide fees, are all done by cheque as schools & GG etc are not geared up to accept anything except for cash or cheque

If the bank will install a chip and pin thingy into my home office to accept payments without charging me then I'll be more than happy but for some reason - I don't think that'll happen!

We havent used it yet but my daughters school has set up a system that is secure and we can pay over the internet, she ( all ) has a card and we can pay for school trips as well as uniform, lunch and anything else from the school shop. It has stopped lots of ' give me your money or else ' in the school.

it a shame DD school didnt install this, they moved into a brand new building in September and you'd have thought they would have installed uptodate payment methods, but they didnt

We got a new bank account about 18 mths ago, and they don't offer a cheque-book with it. It is a pain sometimes, and I still miss it. As Janeyo says, it's really handy for things like paying the milkman and the window-cleaner, especially as ours doesn't seem to have a set day to come for the money.
For school dinners, the school signed up to ParentPay last year so that it can be paid online, but as it has a minimum payment of £10 per child it's a bit of a pain - I don't always have that much available

I paid for my allotment rent by cheque the other day, and that was the last time I used a cheque before that - 1 year ago.

                              I shan't miss them.
