  • Would you do it???

We've just found out that a field 2 mins walk from our house is for sale. Part of it is arable/grazing and it has a small orchard of apple trees. It has a milk quota attached to it if we would want to use it.
Well...OH is very interested in the idea of rare breeds sheep, pigs, highland cattle or alpacas for when he retires early( see- he's an easy going chap open to suggestions!!!!)
Anyway, it's nearly 8 acres and would need refencing, water , food store and winter shelter and is on the market at a really good price.Problem is we don't need it yet, but there may not be anything as good in 5 years when he's ready to pack in his job.
    Buy now or wait???

oh dear...I've got a strange feeling I know what you lot are going to say..

Have you got the cash now? Or can you afford the loan?

If you can afford to buy it, go for it. I would

Do it! Worry about such trivialities as affording it etc at a later date.

Oooooh! It sounds ideal for what you want and soooooo close to home! If it was me and I was in the financial position to do it I'd jump at the chance!

Gives you plenty of time to plan and get excited about what you'll be doing with the land... and I'm betting you'll start putting it to good use before the 5 years come round!

Once you buy the land no doubt about that and become a poor french farmer you can go on strike when the EU decrees something you do not like....jacob

Financially it would seem to be within your reach. If it were me I would go for it. If it has access to roads and services you could let it out for grazing etc. Our son is looking for something just like this to practice grass track racing. How far is it from us ?

Buy it, you can always sub-let until you are ready to farm it all.

Yes; personally if I had the cash and it wasn't earmarked for anything important I'd put an offer in pronto.
