  • Would Love Your Thoughts on This One

Parents of a special needs pupil wanted to move him out of his mainstream placement into a private / charity run special school. The reasons for this were many but one of the problems was that the child was regularly being bullied. Not just name calling and such like but violence, including being attacked with a knife. The child was terrified of going to school.

A private placement would be very expensive for the local authority to fund and so they spent thousands of pounds fighting the parents and arranging a place in an LEA special school. That actualy turned out to be a wise decision. The school could meet his needs, the child soon settled in and the parents were very happy with the placement. So far so good.

The school then had notice that the authority wanted to place another child with them. Only by chance was it discovered that this child was the one largely responsible for the bullying of the first. He was actualy the one wielding the knife.

All the good work the school had done with the first pupil the LEA were prepared to throw away. All the money that had been invested in his placement the LEA were prepared to throw away. Can you imagine the fear of that child when he realised his main tormentor had followed him to his new school.

Fortunately when the school found out what was about to happen they refused to give the second child a place.

My point is; no one in the LEA informed the school of the history between these two pupils. It was only a chance comment that alerted them to the problem. It makes you wonder where some peoples brains are.

If another, perhaps more serious, knife incident had taken place who would have been in trouble. Not the pen pushing dickhead at county hall who arranged the placement thats for sure.

    Rant over. Sorry.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Poor kid. Did it say why the knife happy one was trying to get placed there too?
Juts glad somebody was on the ball for once. Getting fed up of horror stories.

Departments don't talk to each other. One child probably had one caseworker, the other child had a different caseworker. Never the twain would meet.
