    Windows 7, anyone have an opinion yet.?

    Just wondered if any of you Smart Grapes who are PC savvy have an opinion on the new Windows 7 yet.

    I currently have Vista, (came with this PC), its pants however.

    I'm told Windows 7 will iron out Vistas problems.

    Any thoughts..?

    (And as this is a Growing site, my Spell checker wanted to change Savvy to Savoy.!) Ha.

    Been using Win 7 Ultimate for the last 10 months. Brilliant - far better than Vista. More stable, easier GUI, never one BSOD or crash. Go for it. Well supported OS and Win 7 Pro will be the best option. Avoid Ultimate as there are features you will never need... like disc data encryption (bad news for data recovery).

    64 bit is only useful if your drivers and apps support it. And... Win 7 32 bit recognises more than 3.5Gb RAM as it allocates any more to other uses.

      Our laptop is sick at moment so using no1 sons laptop & it is working on ubuntu.

          I've got Vista (came with the pc) mine pants too. Nothing to do with my skills or lack of them

            My housemate has a copy he's offered me, now if only we were ever in the house at the same time I'd borrow it off him.

              I'd have Windows in any format over the bladdy rubbish sLotus Notes (v6.5) and Citrix core systems faff we've got.

                Look on the GMTV website as Martin Lewis was talking about how to get it a lot cheaper if you have students in the family, and this deal is legal.

                  I was reading that Windows 7 is just a slightly polished version of the latest Vista system & as I've got what I think is the up to date Vista I don't think I'll bother changing as I haven't had any problems (yet, fingers crossed!), it's the older versions of Vista which were supposed to be dodgy. When I bought this laptop a few months ago it came with Vista & some info that I could get a free upgrade to Windows 7 if I wanted when it became available so check out yours if you've bought it recently & want to upgrade.

                    I think there are quite a few positives to W7 over Vista Sue. It has a smaller footprint and needs less resources to run well. I have no problem with Vista myself but I like the look of the 'home networking' on W7 that lets you easily connect up all the pcs/peripherals in your house - something I've never bothered to do atm. I think 'family' versions of W7 allow you to put it on 3 pcs?

                      Its what Vista should have been until they took loads of stuff out of Vista halfway through the Beta. I am advising clients to stick with what they got if their systems are stable and perhaps consider upgrading to Win 7 a couple of months after SP1 is released and any legacy apps/hardware will need triple checking or testing first

                        @TEB I did see a bit of info somewhere saying that unlike Vistas c2500 legacy/apps support W7 already has over 8000. I'd jump tomorrow if I could find a good price.

                          Not quite sure what being stable means. I have vista home? I can hardly ever get a new web page from desktop. Usually have to reboot. Is that being unstable ( pc not me) I am always that way.

                              My son gets windows 7 today (pe orderd it) will let you all know what he thinks no good me offering a oppinion as i dont even know what it is im using just leave it up to him lol
