  • Why didn't my tomatoes germinate?

If you read the title, and thought this should be in another forum, no I think this is the best place
I've been taking quick peeks into my heated propagator at the 4 different sowings I (thought) I'd made last week. Nothing showing. I was just sorting through to put another lot in, and I realised the seeds I'd 'sown' last week are still in their packets. A whole week of growing time wasted
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I did similar, I planted Rocket & Chilli's in 2 dishes in the heated propagator, the chilli's were growing well, so transplanted them out, but forgot I had wild Rocket in there too. so threw the rest of the soil back in the bag it came from haha,, seeds an all

Since then I have used the soil to grow tomatoes and a few other things, and keep getting little wild rocket shoots appearing haha!

Sounds like the sort of thing I'd do BS, but I had my youngest granddaughter helping me on Sunday, so I know they've gone in. She wrote the labels too. That'll be interesting when I have to work out what they are!

Ah labels, that's another story. Suffice to say I NEVER think I will remember what I've planted in which pot. I was scouring the garden today to find any ones I could re-use. I used pencil too, my 'permanent' marker is not very permanent, unless I want to scrub it off

Aah the old permanent marker dilemna ... can i recommend a sharpie pen ( they cost about a quid from most supermarkets/ post offices/ etc ) as they even write on those rubbish white plant lables that nothing else will stick to.
I must have tried every pen and pencil under the sun with much annoyance along the way.

Is that a Colin joke or something profound that has eluded me?

One side is rough, the other is smooth, it rubs off the smooth side!

Once again, BS, I'm in your debt! That explains a lot about my seed labelling disasters!!!

This morning I sewed some sweet pea into toilet rolls, then promptly sewed some more on top of the first lot. Had to lift them out with the end of a spoon.

I always use a soft pencil on the labels, about 2B, because I write the date on. Then when I want to re-use them I rub the pencil off with a rubber .
