  • Where can I buy cheap plastic troughs?

I would like a few on the patio, maybe for some onions and parsnips, do you know where I can find any?

I have in the past used those white ones you can get from DIY stores for wallpapering. Don't think they were very dear.
Is it baby parsnips you are planning on growing?

wilkies usually have them quite cheap, or you could use storage boxes, make sure they are extra deep for parsnips, as they have a very long root.

They are regular parsnip sizes, the storage boxes are a fab idea, thanks a lot!

morrisons, Instore, Aldi, Netto, Lidl..........local outdoor market? Better still if you can find a flower shop, they usually have black tubs that they want to get rid of!! recycling....

My experience of those cheapy plastic boxes is that they don't weather too well....have had them outdoors for kiddies garden toys & within months they crack, may be a bit of false economy......or maybe it was just our bad luck!?

Those storage boxes are NOT UV stable ... I used some for cloches one year, and after one season the plastic shattered into a million sharp little pieces.

I got my troughs and tubs from the Poundshop (bless those little Chinamen).

Wilkinson's (Wilko) do reasonable ones. I've got 2 by the front door with winter pansies - it's their 3rd year potted up. I gave my daughter one planted up with dwarf french beans too - they are fine for growing veg.
