  • When they are ringing your curtain down...

Just been watching the video clips of the children's programmes I used to watch (on the "Forgotten Children's Book" thread -( curtesy of Mothhawk - thanks hun).
Sat and sang along to "The White Horses" with a big grin on my face and tears rolling down it. Such very happy childhood memories. Have decided that when the time comes I want that played full blast at my funeral as the curtains close - and everyone has to sing along.
That or "The Flashing Blade". Just so as you know.
Has anyone else given any thought to their "Exit" music?

I've always liked the poem by W H Audin, funeral blues, its become a bit overused these days though.

I haven't thought much about what I do want, but I know what I don't want; Abide with Me, The Old Rugged Cross or All Things Bright and Beautiful.

You have to be careful about these things, or you can ruin a good tune for someone forever. I never really liked it anyway, but they had Over the Rainbow at my Nan's funeral and, eight years on, I still can't listen to it. If it comes on somewhere where I can't turn it off or escape from it, I'm in bits searching for tissues.

Time to say goodbye - Sarah Brightman. Am with VC on Abide With Me, dire beyond belief. Quite like All Things Bright And Beautiful as a hymn but mine of choice would have to be Dear Lord and Father Of Mankind if I had one at all. Quite liking "manamanam boo boo boo doo doo" with those funny looking Muppets. Oh and no curtain or crem. Woodland burial with a cypress or yew stuck on top

Ah, I know what you mean, Jules. We played "True Love" from High Society at my Mum's funeral as it was her and Dad's "song" and we thought it appropriate as they were being reunited. It was lovely at the time, and in a strange way when I heard it on the radio yesterday, although it choked me up something terrible, it was also quite comforting to think of them together again. We have the words "Love Forever True" engraved on their headstone.

Whoa! VVG! That's weird! We had Dear Lord and Father of Mankind AND Time to Say Good-bye at Dad's funeral! Plus, we toyed with the idea of having The Goons "Ying Tong Tiddle-Eye-Poh!" as Dad was a huge Goons fan. We played it at his wake. Cheered things up no end!

Just music, definitely no hymns and "Always look on the Bright side" at the end - and I'm staying for the party afterwards when I shall get ridiculously drunk
