  • When is a door not a door?

    When its ajar...

I'm leaving my greenhouse doors open this week with some extra shade thrown over things - and my coldframe lid propped open. Working away and it looks like its going to be warm in Devon. Everything will be screwed if any frost comes unexpectedly, but otherwise I fear everything will be dead through drying out (I've got my big toms in gravel trays full of water - but the smaller stuff will fry methinks.

I'll let you know how the gamble pays off - unless it doesn't go well

According to the Met office I've got a couple of 4c and 5c overnight lows, Metcheck says even lower temps this week so I've still got things like Toms and cucs in doors on window sills.
So I feel a bit jealous of your weather Baldy.

Yeah, it's tricky. I've just potted on loads and have run out of space. I was going to leave everything out in the garden blowaway but have decided to split the crops. The most important ones are staying in for another week, the others are in the blowaway and will have to take their chance. We have temps of 4C, 2C and 5C forecast for the next few nights, our last frost date is supposed to be 2nd week of May.
I know it's not accurate but for you according to:
      http://www.gardenfocused.co.uk/adjus...combe,%20Devon
Your last frost date is typically around 2nd week of April. Obviously you know best but I think you've probably made the right decision.

Metcheck is still saying potential frosts here for another week or so. My toms etc are still on the windowsill, as the highest its holding in the growhouse overnight is 8C.

        But I think you're safe.

I've risked 3 Tom's outside, the rest are in the stayput to clear the sills for squash. Fingers crossed.

They've revised our forecast up.... just 1C tomorrow night and then it looks like we're through... *excited*

With the cold and dry weather we've had for so long, it feels like a bit like we're on the grid under starters orders! Fully expecting a soft, green explosion on the plot in the next couple of weeks. *grabs hoe and glares*

Um! When is a door not a door?
                              1) When it's someone else's door you've tried unsuccessfully to open for the last 15 minutes then realised you've gone to the wrong house!
                              2) When it used to be where your door was until necessary recent renovations re-located it. After several tinctures later, you could be forgiven for forgetting where it used to be, then just bang your head on the wall where the door used to be.
                              3) When your on-line/mobile phone app re- setting all your necessary domestic needs to switch on or go off at whatever time is dictated had been hacked. "Open Sesame" wasn't the best password to use because receiving take-away meals with buns you hadn't ordered meant you had to get up from the sofa (sofa so good), de-activate your burglar alarm to let them in (PLEEZE let it be the same password) only to find they've bug***ed off and left it and the bill on the doorstep because you didn't answer it in the regulated time.
                              4) When it's a cat flap.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!
