What wood do I need?

Balsa wood is very light and used in model making. You can buy it in thin sheets from model shops.

take a trip tp B& Q or similar outlet and you will find they stock many different kinds of wood trim. With a tenon saw and a mitre box, you should have no problems knocking up a nice picture frame.

I am making the presumption you intend to make a wooden cover for the photo album.

If so the wood I would reccomend would be lite ply as used by model makers. Down to 2mm thick, reasonably strong, cut with stanley knife (new blade reccomended), pale colour.

Check out what the greengrocer throws out in terms of wooden crates for fruit. You never know you may find some nice bits to put together.

Nothing like your original idea, but have you thought of making the front cover a marquetry or inlay picture of the car he's restored?

Hi guys, thankyou all so much. It has to be online ordering as I cant get to anywhere. The Light plywood and one of the links above seems to have found what I am looking for. Jeanied, I have some crates etc but they are too thick. Thankyou anyway. Endymion, that sounds great. Could be good as another project. I have never done marquetry but it has given me lots of ideas

I looked at doing a marquetry course in our local college a few years back but they couldn't get the numbers. Shame, I'd still like to do it.

Im having a read up and watching some videos online then giving it a go. Its how I do most things, jump in before really knowing what Im doing. Mess it up once or twice and then Im fine hehe.

So here is how the album is coming along. I cut it slightly too big for now so will need trimming down but I would much rather too big than too small.

He he.........I used to have a customised Ford Anglia many moons ago. I put a back axle from a Jaguar XJ6, Capri front struts with disks, and it had a Capri engine (twin carbed) and box.

Used to go like stink, very rarely got out of 3rd gear (55-60mph)..............the problem was stopping the damm thing!
