  • What type of member were you?

When you joined GYO were you the one at the seaside that waded straight in and got stuck in, or did you lurk in the shallows for a while before joining?

    What gave you the push.

To get you started, I was a wader, whereas in the sea I am definitely a shallows man. I can't remember what I was looking for when I first joined, but it probably had something to do with me getting a plot.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Well- my OH was the one who joined during his Xmas hols - posted the first few posts and then went back to work....so I took his place and name as back then you couldn't have two peeps as members in the same household... and as I'd just stopped working, I had more time on my hands.

I had been reading other posts and threads and thought what a friendly place it was/is- so I dibbled my toes in for a while to test the water.
I am actually quite shy ( yeh right!) so it took a while to feel confident to join in- so I went from a toe dipping member to a mermaid ( well more like a blue whale!!) over the years.

Messed around in the rock pools looking to see what went on in there - liked it a lot and dived in!

I bowled straight in and thought about it later (story of my life!) I had a question about something and went straight in and asked it and got some wonderful advice from very friendly people and the rest, as they say, is history.
Come to think about it it's the same way I go into the sea - if I think about anything for very long, I tend to put myself off

Mr D joined first, then I joined a few days later, as we had just started to realise our ambitions of GYOing our own food. Once we had our plot (took only a few days back before allotments got trendy) we were hooked, I dived right in and was MOM a couple of months later, surely for sheer volume of posts, questions and fun rather than for any real knowledge I had at the time!

I walked along the beach for quite a long time before I dipped my toes in. I think my confidence grew after I had ventured into the Chat Thread (which took ages and lots of courage).

Can't dive, so I held my nose and jumped in!

I remember jumping into a few other veggie gardening and chookie forums at the time ..........but I jumped straight back out of those again!

I kept flowing in & out, a bit like the tide. Then thought, sod it it cant be as bad as some of the old AOL boards used to be! After a few days now really enjoying it.
