  • What is it with packets of seeds?

    Simple question really.....
What is IT with seed packets....why do new and un opened ones feel so good in your hand, I love to lay them out to look at, to ponder over. To gather them up and find myself laying them out again (different order this time of course!)....no other feeling quite like it. It is the promise of good things to come? or the design of the packet? I dont really know.
I like the brown paper packets and the ones without pictures, the ones with lots to read and enjoy or even ones in sealed envelopes from friends. Fantastic

I cant be alone in this possible crazyness can I?

Nope - I sorted out my carrier bag full of approx 300 packets - and everytime I move something on the table another packet magically appears - I found another 5 after the count.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Mines in a biscuit tin and I love sorting and re-sorting them, it makes me I feel like a kid playing with my Nans button box.

I've been doing that for the last half an hour. Take them out, look at them, read them thoroughly, study the pictures, put them back!

How many people are lured by the brand on the packet such as duchy, where the marketing is far better than some lesser brands?

I nearly was this year, I wanted the red peppers, then I remembered they're hellish expensive, you only get 5 seeds, and they're F1's.
I got some Franchi ones instead

No, not me.......It has to be what is in the packet, but I am easily swayed by the wording on the back, like - excellent flavour, rare, super flavour, easy to grow, incredible flavour........ Dont even need pictures - just words, I dont care who supplies them, as long as they grow!

This is my problem with packet seeds, how do you define flavour. When they say they are the sweetest or supersweet, what are they comparing it to, their own variations or the market as a whole.

                          I'm awfully cynical.

Mine are all in colour coordinated plastic envelopes with the name of the group they come from on the front . And yes...I take them out ALL the time to look at them. I think the only other thing I like more than playing with mi seeds...

... fondling BEANS. I'm not bothered if there runner beans, French beans or broad beans. There sooooooo tactile and...beanie shaped

What is it about BEAN seeds?????
