  • What a mess

Went this afternoon to go and collect my OH's car from Garage as it went in for its MOT - got a call to said it had passed. Disaster when I got the garage..........someone has reversed into the rear of the car and smashed all the lights, massive dent and the towbar has come off. Owner was so apologetic, said he would get it repaired but then when he started talking about cheap parts, I got worried. I told him that we want genuine Audi parts, he said it didnt matter what they were aslong as they got the car working. We had a row and it resulted me in calling the police. Police have said I have a few options

prosecute and make a claim on my insurance and have it repaired at an Audi dealer.

allow him to repair it without involvement of insurance

get it repaired myself and bill him.......

OH has no idea as he has gone to a meeting in my car, fretting about what to say about his pride and joy.

I think the owner of the car (ie your OH) is the one to decide which way to go about it, but bear this in mind.
It might be best to inform the insurers (did you have any witnesses to the conversation, or to the damage?) because if you DON'T tell them, and they later find out, they might use that to weasel out of paying on a different claim......

'own brand' spares are usually OK, but may invalidate insurance if they are not 'proper' ones (there are good 'own brands' and there are cheap and nasty ones)

Stick with Audi parts- why should you have a cheap alternative- you did nothing wrong!
Do you have his Insurance details?? I'd pass them onto your company and get a hire car whilst your at it!

Don't pay out of your own pocket- you may not get it back!
I wouldn't bother with avoiding Insurers- it's his policy which will be paying after all and you don't lose your no claims.

Not a nice thing to happen though is it?

Totally agree with Nicos, why should you have to have cheaper parts because he cant drive??? If you had original audi parts, then thats exactly what you should expect back in return.

he should be covered by his insurance, in that case claim, ask him for the details etc.
if he is not covered by his insurance, then he should have been and he is in the wrong, he needs to replace them with the original parts, or risk going to court, where he will get hammered for not carrying the necessary insurance in the first place.

Let OH deal with it, then what ever he decides, you do not get the blame for

Sometimes garages give us women the run around stick with it and get OH to deal with it, why should you pay you were'nt even there. The garage are responsible while the car is on their property.

There is a new EU rule which has just come into force banning cheap car parts. Only official parts are now allowed. I don't know whether the UK are enforcing this one or not (they do all the really stupid ones, weights and measures and straight bananas).
I would go through the garage's insurance to be sure it is done as you want it.

                Bad luck.

But as it wasnt your fault he should be the one to sort it out they were obviously giving you a hard time. What would he have done if he had gone to pick the car up !!!! exactly dealt with it. Sometimes men are so insensitive.
                  Hugs to you

Your Insurance Company will recommend a repair garage.
I'd be very suspect of 'your ' garage doing a perfect job if they're angry with you!...but maybe I'm not being a nice person!

Update...........had a flamin row, now its my fault cos I recommended the garage!!! Police are involved and AA have towed the car to AUDI as it looks a lot more serious than we first reckoned. OH has also seen the damage to the other car and says its bad.

The garage owner is insured he now says that it was a colleague who reversed into our car, accidentally putting foot onto accelerator instead of brake.........

He has now stormed off out..........i am eating my fruit and nut from Xmas

Oh dear why do men put their cars before us its not fair, if we did that to them they wouldnt like it. My OH has hit more cars ( usually reversing ) than I have and he just shrugs his shoulders and says oh well these things happen.
Hope he calms down soon and realises its not your fault.
                            Hugs again.
