    What have you found whilst digging???

    In my introduction I mentioned that I had finally attacked my jungle of a garden after living in my house for a while......I cleared all the weeds and tidied everything up. I have since been preparing half of it for veg etc and have had to dig over the whole site (two plots of about 15' X 5').

    Whilst digging at the weekend I uncovered a rug (a synthetic material as it hadn't rotted at all!), numerous complete house bricks, a saucepan lid, metal hinges, locks etc. On chatting to my neighbour (who has been in his house for a while) he mentioned that the previous owner had buried a shed!!!! I mean....who buries a shed!!! I then discovered the metal lined shed roof buried 2 feet down over a large area which took a good hour to dig up....

    Thank goodness for Radox and Deep Heat......

      half burnt wardrobes and lots of hinges and nails and screws in the back garden
      whole bricks and large bits of roofing felt in the bit at the side

        i found an old ring- only brass, plaited. no value, but i wore it for years, ( after coating the underside with nail varnish) as i liked the fact that it seemed a homemade token of someones love for another.

          second world war (vichy government) franc - which we thought was quite interesting...loads and loads of old bottles (the embankment seems to have been used as a rubbish dump at some stage.

            Lots of pieces of old clay pipes including occassional bowls and glazed mouth pieces

            Bits of old blue and white pottery, a tiny perfume bottle and a lovely old glass stopper.

            I usually bury them all again so someone else will have the pleasure of finding them in the future

              2 tonne engine hoist - can't be moved and is now painted black and used for climbing plants in summer and to hang bird feeders in winter;

              Unimog engine block - painted silver and used as planter for lobelias but now under pile of stuff awaiting the rag and bone man;

              Metal wheel hub - now home to an ivy, forget-me-knots and some voles;

              Metal bed frame;

              Old LWB Land Rover - now been rehomed (with V5 [in the attic] and permission of previous owner) to loving new owner;

              Saddle racks - 2 of them;

              The most enormous chain (link size that is) I've ever seen with a massive hook (1 ft high now used as gate stop) on the end - had to move it with my old Pinin because it was so very heavy ;

              And down the old victorian well we found (from nearest to top of well to bottom):

              1950's pram wheels - intact with white tyres;
              1930'sish parrafin lamp - slightly damaged;
              Various, intact bottles; and, at the very bottom of the well
              Complete, stainless steel bucket very much like the galvanised ones you can get from B&Q. Filled with sludge, bottles and another bucket which hadn't faired so well .

                You sure you're in North Lincs? Sounds like my OH's yard!

                All I've dug up is a donkey shoe. Now, ask me what I've found in the horse's field and I can tell you all sorts of lovely things. I could clothe a whole family (well, if I'd kept everything...).

                      A whole eletric outdoor light system, about 2 foot down. Some of it is still there :/
