  • What happened to Freecycle...?

Having had a bit of a clear out of daughter's books and games in the New Year, put a couple of notices on freecycle (now called 'freegle' in my area) and waited for interested parties to get in touch. Two duly did, and after a few emails.....a fortnight later, I'm still waiting for them to turn up and collect. What a shame....quite puts me off offering more on there.

Is this an unfortunate coincidence or do other folk have similar experience with giving stuff away these days.

Freegle and Freecycle are different groups but in a lot of areas the Freecycle people broke away and formed separate groups, don't really know why but think it was an internal politics bit in most cases.

As far as what they're like, they're only a function of the people that use them. You can get a lot of greedy idiots and people who are inconsiderate but you can also get some stars. Don't give up on it, when it works, it's great.
By the way, if people don't pick up stuff from me they get an e-mail to ask if they're going to come and if they don't reply then somebody else gets the stuff, no hanging around if they can't be bothered (unless they've told me why of course)

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

You're right, of course. It just surprised me that neither turned up.

I've been a huge fan of freecycle in the past - even got a greenhouse from there myself, but a few people always seem to have to spoil it for the rest.

It's a shame isn't it but don't leave it as that'll increase the proportion of idiots there

If you didn't have any luck with freecycle, maybe you could try Gumtree?

I had the same problems with freecycle in sheffield and thats now turned into 2 different groups. I got so fed up with it that I just take most of my old stuff to the charity shop now.
We put a few things on it last year and out of 20 replies only 2 turned up. We put a fairly newish tv on it and had about 50 people wanting it and we had to re offer it about 6 times before anybody came!

I have the same problem right now... there's a bag of stuff under my porch waiting for someone to collect.

I usually now just list the stuff on eBay: for a penny. It seems to attract a better audience (I have one non-collector from eBay at the moment too, but at least she paid in advance)

As with anything, the more popular it becomes, the greater the number rotten eggs. Don't let it ruin the spirit of it

I found my local freecycle group but you had to apply to join..which I duly did but never heard back from them, so guess it doesnt exsist down here either?!

You sign up with a user name and then they send you a password - check your Junk folder, it might have gone in there?

Yep, TS I did that, twice infact and checked junk folder at the time too.
Still from what I have been reading it might be more hassle than its worth.
