I can see this turning into a disaster. I presume it will only work if you live in the country...can't see millions of drones flying round big cities! As someone says in the comments, could someone not simply shoot it down?

I can see some problems as well.
Rural areas would not generate the order numbers to justify the cost - drones over military areas is a complete no no so it could be a very long way round - would they disturb migragion areas for birds - power cable - and another Roswell incident.

I can't see how it can comply with the requirements of Unmanned Aircraft | UK Civil Aviation Authority
          Specifically:-
          (3) The person in charge of a small unmanned aircraft must maintain direct,
unaided visual contact with the aircraft sufficient to monitor its flight path in
relation to other aircraft, persons, vehicles, vessels and structures for the
          purpose of avoiding collisions.

I'm sure Amazon have looked into all this. Doesn't seem viable to me.

I think this is for the future once all the initial obstacles have been overcome...........which there will be many I am sure.

I think that I would be an obstacle to the idea just because the negative side of the idea could be used for purposes such as IED delivery, secret filming etc.

Very futuristic, I like the idea of it. I wonder if it took off (pun intended) how much delivery traffic it would take off the roads; we see lots of courier vans round here.

I think it will be use mainly in rural areas Mr B. I can't imagine drones dodging trees & lamposts..........

                      I can - how funny!

How does it know where your address is - our bungalow is on the right hand side of the dead end road and those on the left are a completely differant address but same post code.

Hope they don't become too popular - 3D traffic jams overhead will stop the sunshine getting to our plants!

I hope it doesn't work, I think it will lead to even more unemployment, then there is the intrusion and loss of privacy as VC said the operator should be able to see it at all times but with Amazon being a rich company the law will be changed and that will mean Vidio linked control

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Reminds me a bit of the Jetson's..............anyone remember them? The government would like them because there would be no postal strike!

Postbox on the end of each garden, multiple drops from a drone!

Finding your address these days with advanced global positioning is not a problem, they can be accurate within a metre.

Flight time is a problem even the best and most expensive drones are limited to around 20 minutes and the more weight you add the less the flight time.

Batteries will improve yet again but how long it will take for the next big step is any ones guess.
