  • Websites with a Shopfront?

Ma & I want to build a webstore type thing. Has anyone got one that's so easy to administer/load photos etc that even I can do it?

My site for the craft fairs was a Mr Site, and that was ok but frustrating at times. I certainly got a lot of compliments on the ease of use and how it looked. There is a storefront builder that Mr Site have, has anyone used that?

Thanks chaps, any advice is good advice.....

my current website is hosted by Wix but although its really easy to do (load and use) its NOT free like they say it is.
I've also used clikpic before, they were ok but rather annoying if you want to alter anything it takes ages.

A few years back I used Joomla to create a website for selling handmade jewellery, it could be a little finickety but was free, has lots of community support and interesting add ons and as it's all yours you can change/tinker all you want.

Might be worth a look: Joomla! The CMS Trusted By Millions for their Websites

Quite a few, eCommerece is a full blown shopping cart system I've used - might be a bit OTT mind, but it's very powerful (this was about 5/6 years ago mind!)

Thanks chaps. That's food for thought. The Mr Site one is £240.......Ma offered to pay but I'd rather she didn't have to. I'm prevaricating about this as the workload will be mine and I'm such a technophobe. I can't even remember how I built the craft fairs website - I know I changed just about everything on the template, but how I have no recollection.

I'm being dense, I know, but are these all ecommerce systems that you add to existing websites, will I have to build a site first?

I'm note sure about the others but Joomla is a Content Management System (CMS) which you can use to build a website then add on things like shopping carts etc.

Thinking about it don't google and/or paypal offer a shopping cart sort of function you can add to a website?

                    Google one:

                    https://checkout.google.com/seller/i...ppingcart.html

Both of these need to be added to an existing website though

Does it have to be a new site, Jules (I'm assuming this if for your craft/homemade items?)

My sister sells her paintings through a page on folksy, although I think that etsy is the better known site.

                        .
We use Wix too- and ours is free ( although there is some advertising on it via Wix) Perhaps you are paying for no other advertising NP??)
VERY easy to use- but we had problems with flash and iPhones initially

I do need to build a brand new site. Folksy, etsy, misi are all very well but most people who visit them are crafters themselves so don't really need to buy your stuff and, when I sold on etsy, everyone pinched my ideas.

I've downloaded Joomla! onto my puter but I have no idea what to do with it now....just waiting for a Son to come home - there should be one along shortly - to tell me what to do next! (I told you I was thick....)
