  • Wayne! Wayne! Wayne! Wayne! Wayne! Hey! Wayne!

    This is for Hey Wayne.

I am off to London Village for the day tomorrow so won't be here to ask how it went, so I'm asking in advance before I leave on my travels.

    SOooooooooooo.....how was it?

They've just restarted, sans Layne Staley who self-destructed eventually/inevitably. But they're sounding pretty good without him...

ETA: 'sans' = without.. Tis a new singer, and he's good.

Cool.......I thought he was dead.....perhaps I'm thinking of someone else - it's been a while since I bought NME [or any other popular music paper].....

Anyway - hopefully the big fella will be on here soon waxing lyrical with his matchsticks in his eyes.....

Layne is dead - died in the early noughties. Drug overdose.

Annnnyway. Pearl Jam were absolutely on the money! By far the best live act I've ever seen (I'm slightly biased of course).

They opened with "Release" - a brilliant sing along to get things started and from then on it was just amazing.

I'm conscious of gushing and waffling on about it - but I am so glad I got to see them.

Whilst they absolutely rock, they still are mindful of their fans it would seem (especially in light of the Roskilde incident), as last night the crowd on the floor were surging and people at the front were being crushed a bit so Eddie stopped the show and asked that the audience to trust him and on the count of three asked everyone to move back three steps - which they all did to a massive cheer.

He also - in tribute to Michael Jackson, played the opening bars (after several attempts) to "Ben" on guitar before they shifted to play "Rats" which I thought was a nice touch.

Played all my favourites ("Even Flow", "Alive", "Elderley Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town", "Why Go", "Black"....), and some real belters including the new single "The Fixer" - from the new album (conventiently released near my birthday ) which I wasn't too keen on when I first heard it, but that could be because I heard it on my laptop, but having heard it live I'm convinced.

We left a few minutes before 11 to beat the traffic and get back at a reasonable hour to relieve our babysitters (who'd had a bit of a mare with Bean it sounds), and we missed a couple of tracks, but I'd set the "leave before the end" rule some years ago, so had to abide by it, but I left a very very happy man.

"If something's broooooke, I'm gonna put a little fixer on it..."

Have fun in the big smoke.

Sounds amazin' Wayne! Must admit, I am v. v. jealous... Them's all my favourite tunes too...

I would totally recommend you go and 'listen again' to Zane Lowe's show from last night and get your ears round that new A in C tune, it's amarzin'! (52 minutes into the broadcast, so you can skip Zane waffle...) It's made me go and fish 'Dirt' out, and seeing as the kids are out, tis on loud
I think V's will be next in the queue

New Alice in chains tune is awesome. Also very jealous, never ever seen Pearl Jam and I've been to at least 1-2 festivals a year since I was 14! Went past the Reading festy site the other day and the main stage is up which made me very excited! (even though I've lived here +25 years!

Will have a listen to Zane at lunch.

I might post my video of "Alive" later on when I get in (camera's at home). You may even be able to hear my delicate version in the background.

It's good, but it's not right somehow - especially how the new dude sounds very similar to Layne. It's somehow like Nirvana carrying on without Kurt, or INXS without Michael. Oh wait, they did didn't they.

                        I'm not convinced - yet.

That's it! I've resisted long enough and now I am going to dig out my Pearl Jam cds and listen to them all ..... while I am making jam ... I can't decide if that is appropriate or not...

LG; It couldn't be MORE right

HW - Glad you had a great time.....They're still young enough to do it right without being over the hill.....when I went to see KISS reform it was an embarrassing fiasco. I also leave before the end, after having to wait an hour after an Ryan Adams gig to pay for the car park in Nottingham round the corner.

I really enjoyed listening to 10 yesterday....so it's going into the car for a while.
