  • Washing machine is FUBAR'd

Can't believe it, we've only had the thing 2 years! Bearings have gone, too as expensive to repair as replace.
Repair man said he wouldn't touch INDESIT with a barge pole, anyone care to recommend a good machine?

My Hotpoint one has been OK for a few years now, trouble is I think they are all made by more or less one company these days so there's not a lot to choose from on the quality stakes.I used to have a Zanussi one that lasted 15 years- they are owned by another multiple now so apparently not so good. Good luck in your search,I think I'd rather the telly break down than the washing machine. One thought- get a cold fill machine -more economical-only heating the water once.

Our Beko was 2nd hand when we got it, and we've had it 4 years. It's moved house too... no probs so far (apart from a temporary smell, which soda crystals fixed)

I have had a Servis Quartz for many years and have had no trouble with it at all.

We had a 2nd hand machine when we first got married, it was already ancient and it lasted us about 6 years, we never seem to get more than about 3 years out of them these days. Can you still rent them? Remember radio rentals?!

I can't remember if it's Bosch or Beko that have fairly recently changed hands...kept the name but not the standards,we were warned against one of them when we recently had to replace ours.
We got a Whirlpool a few months back and so far(touch wood)are happy with it!

We also needed a new Fridge freezer recently, initially went to Comet, weren't too impressed, then went to Bennets...IMHO so much better service & the warranty was less than half the price of Comets.

Andi's just home...it's Bosch and not Beko you need to avoid.

Bosch, think they have a 2 year warranty - ours did when we got it 2 years or so ago.

I would contact Indesit. It may be "out of guarantee", but bearings should not need replacing after only 2 years. I can't remember the exact law,( it's something like The Sale Of Goods Act) which takes precedence over manufacturer's guarantees.

I've resorted to buying 'white goods' from charity shops and treating them as disposable If you pick the right shop (British Heart Foundation etc) you get a six or twelve month guarantee, so you know you'll have something that works. Tbh, I think it's appalling that this kind of thing has become just another throw away item but at least if I buy from a charity, I feel like I'm helping someone else - and paying less of course!

I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

He's right ... guarantees and warranties are in addition to your statutory rights (Sale of Goods Act says goods should be expected to last - "for up to six years after purchase ... purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement".)
However, it is the retailer, not the manufacturer, who is responsible. http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/cons...page38311.html

Me too. I get reconditioned ones from a local chap, and don't pay more than about £90 per item

I'll agree with lettucegrow-it's more or less one company now.Our snazzy fridge freezer(hotpoint)just popped it's clogs after 2.5 year.No warranty so we had to fork out for a new one. When OH took the old one to bits it turned out that loose screw(???)clogged the bit where the water is supposed to go.Not to mention production debris left behind.Quality control,eh?
I don't fancy hotpoint so much now but somebody might say the same about beko or indesit.
When I was looking for the new one online, there's an option for the additional cover-2.99 a month or a bit more for a premium one.I could give you some more info once I get home(at work now)

Bosch for me, quality gear with a good service dept if required. Ours is now 6 years old and going well.

Do you not think it's strange that we all say and seem to agree that white goods don't seem to last as long as they used to do. Is it really just coincidence that over the same period of time manufacturers and retailers have been able to flog us insurance and extended warranties.

Perhaps I'm just cynical but when things seemed to last longer we didn't need (and so wouldn't buy) the warranties.

                              Coincidence, hmmm.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.
