  • Wanted knitting knowledge

    Hello,
we have seen these very cute leg warmer type things that we would like for sprout.
they are quite expensive and I have wool and a willing great grandma, but she cant knit without a pattern.
I was wondering if any of you clever ladies and gents could come up with a pattern for me.
here are some links to the leggings.

    Thanks

I googled little leg warmer knitting patterns and found this. For older kids, but she could perhaps reduce the number of stitches.

That mamalicious linkie is so cute!

What about a sock pattern, but substitute another rib for the foot part?

Hmm, not seen patterns for those but will have a check online.

Would think that so long as you use double or triple rib then you would have sufficient stretch - then stocking stitch I guess for the 'leg' bit though the whole lot in rib should be fine too. Gentle increasing should take care of the wider top for the leg. Might have a play - can't remember how long a mini sprog's leg is though

Although they look pretty cool, I suspect they will come off fairly quickly when sprog reaches crawling stage - I remember the boys babygrows got very long in the leg at that stage

I found these for you. The first one is quite chunky and the second one is plain but you could do it in stripes if you wanted to
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Thanks everyone, she doesnt have a 4 needle set or circular needles, dont sock patterns use those?

as for coming off when crawling, yes no doubt they would, (very funny mental pic!)but I was thinking of using them with a sling, as we havnt got a pram, I thought it might keep the cold off thet bit of leg that always shows between sock and pants when babes are in slings.

You don't have to use circular needles - they just remove the need for a seam, makes it a little tricky to work out the 'wrong side' rows is all.

Good idea on the sling thing - they were not hugely popular when ours were little enough to lug about!

I might buy some yarn and needles and knit some for myself if I spend any longer on here...I remember wearing them to bed for years when we had a house with no heating.

It's brought back alot of memories.

It would also be really easy to crochet them with a small hook I am well into the ol' crochet atm... and I'm not even middle aged!

Pootle, how would I know what size needle I needed? we have double knit wool and we both usually use size 4 needles (I dont know why she does but for me its the only size I have) What is a dpns?
I might even have a go myself with a circular needle.

Birdie wife, both our crochet skills are even worse than our knitting skills, I can do streght line! lol.

Double knit weight wool is usually knit on a 4mm needle (old number 8), different wool weights require different thickness of needles. dpns are double pointed needles - they come in sets of 4 or 5 for knitting socks - easier for smaller numbers of needles than circular needles are.

The pattern usually states the wool weight and needle sizes required for a correctly sized garment.
