  • very Scary Morning...

Got up at 5am as usual, made coffee, switched on the news to see "Breaking News" about earthquake in Christchurch, NZ - AGAIN.
Sick with worry untill we were able to contact DiL to confirm that she, husband and granddaughter were all ok. Thank god for FB!
DiL was at work when it happened - where they had just finished repairing the building from last time and watched as her car was bounced around the carpark!
She said the scaryiest bit was when she was trying to drive home and great big cracks were still opening up in the road!
    I wish they'd come home.
It's all very well having a "better standard of living" but if it means that you and all you hold dear could be swallowed up by the ground with no warning, I choose rainy old Britain any day!

Just been watching it on the news, it does look terrifying. Thank God your family are OK. I hope this is the last of the bad news from that area for a good while now, they do seem to have been going through it a bit lately.

Glad they are ok. I have some relations in that area as well so hoping all is ok. That part of the world seem's to be having everything thrown at it lately. I guess if they think they have a better life out there they will do everything to make it work. I suppose it also depends how determined they are to stay come what may.
Hugs to you while you sit at home worrying about them.

I'm so glad to hear your family's OK Creemteez, it must be a big worry when mother nature flexes her muscles. ((((((((((BIG HUG'S))))))))) to you and yours.
The images on the telly are terrible and so shocking, to think that buildings can be so strong, yet so brittle under those kind of conditions must be terrifying for those who live there.
I know we have members on the vine who live down in New Zealand and pray they are all OK.
We might have all the horrible rain, snow and we grumble when we can't have nice sunshine, but it beats being gobbled up by big cracks in the ground with not much warning.

it's been a very long day for me.....i'm a Christchurch girl and got rung at 2:20am by my bro in law telling me it had happened. I finally got to speak to both my parents around 6:30am having watched it all unfolding on tv. it's just heartbreaking watching the images of the city you know and love so well reduced to rubble.
i took the day off work because i couldnt concentrate on anything and am drained. its been an awful day.

Thanks Peeps - and Kiwirach - I feel for you.
Strange thing is that DiL was telling us that the September earthquake was predicted by a bloke out there they call Earthquake Bob or something similar. He also predicted that there would be another around the 20th of Feb (!). Spoookily, he also claims there will be another one in March. Can't help hoping he's wrong this time!

Glad to hear yours are ok, we went straight onto FB too to check ours were ok - luckily they are. Their house was condemmed in the last one, fortunately no further damage to it as they were still living there. Scary stuff.
