What sort of a man would do this??
Mme P is currently selling her house. Her ex partner managed to get himself on the deeds, and is now expecting half the cash of the sale.

Before they bought the house, her house was paid off cash, as was his. She sold her house, and he was due to do the same. A few days before the sale went through his buyer pulled out so he contributed nothing, but she still went ahead and bought the house with his name on the deeds, with her fully expecting him to sell his house and pay the cash into the family budget. He never put his house back on the market, and in the 4 years they lived in the house he never did a days work and thus never contributed a single penny to the budget.

She has found buyers for her house, which in these times in France is difficult enough, and they were all due to go to sign the initial forms etc this evening. He has just phoned her at lunch time to say he cant make it this evening as he's going dancing!!!!!!!!!!!!

She works and finds it difficult to take time off work, the prospective buyers also both work and will find it difficult to arrange another time, he is just being a complete and utter (insert word of choice) and seeing her in tears in the kitchen not more than half an hour ago was really really difficult for me.

Not only did he not contribute a centime in all the time they were together, but now she's got someone interested in buying (and he's going to get half of it as it stands currently) he's still messing her about just for his amusement.

Why?? I just dont get it!

Oh, that's terrible Bob - Give Mme P an extra hug from me. I really hope this is all sorted out very soon so that you can put it (him) behind you and get on with your lives without any trouble.
I think Rustylady has hit the nail on the head - he probably wants to feel in control.
I can think of a word to insert - to do with the newsreader who got his words mixed up

Power. Quite simple. Nasty bit of work and poor lass having had to put up with it for so long. Luckily she now has you!

I'm sure that his half of the proceeds includes pro rata deductions for costs ? Stick on the price of petrol money, time off work, cost of baby sitters etc for the buyers - make the b***er pay for his "fun" !

Sorry to hear of your troubles,Bob and Mme P.
Had similar experience myself. It galled the life out of me to have to give "It" it's "share", but ultimately it was worth it to be rid of it! Hope things are resolved soon.

I agree with the first part of your post - A good Lawyer, in this instance, will be worth the money, I suspect. Not that I'm encouraging that kind of thing, but, honestly, it makes ya wanna spit...

Is it worth trying to remove him from the deeds or is it too difficult now that the sale is going through? Not that he will agree to it but dragging it out may well discourage him?

I could insert a really nasty word to describe that kind of low life Bob, he sounds like a very slimy critter. Is there any way she could get the buyer to pay her a lump payment of the money in cash and the rest through the books so to speak. That way he'll only get half the money that's declared. She could always say she had to drop the price for a quick sale...just an idea.

As others have said power over her and maybe he is jealous that she now has you. Probably to late in the proceedings to get him removed from the deeds without giving him a penny.
When I divorced my first OH I had to pay him 10k to stay with our four sons in the house but I was at the time on income support and not working, but had to raise the money on the mortgage and dss had to pay it, for them it was cheaper than putting 5 of us in rented accomodation. He was in work albeit self employed and went to live with his parents.
