  • Useless Orange!!

Yet again, my broadband connection has gone pear-shaped I'm getting really fed up with them now, it's been on-off, on-off, on-off for ages and now it's just off If you ring up the technical support line you get a recorded message saying that they know there is a problem, they don't know why, and they can't say how long it will take to fix
We've been with them for over 10 years, from when they started as Freeserve, through Wannadoo and now Orange. We get a good package (unlimited downloads etc) from them, every time we've threatened to leave they've given us extras or promotions to stay, but this is getting beyond an irritation now...
Are they all as bad as each other? I know Shirley and Madmax have had ongoing problems with BT, and have heard others complaining about TalkTalk. Is it worth the hassle of changing, to get the same problems without any of the 'loyal customer' benefits?

Anyway, I'm having to use my mobile (Orange :rolleyes) as a modem to get on here now, so I might not be about much until they get the broadband fixed

I will check with Madmax Sarah, but I think Orange are working on improving their broadband service at the moment. I know Madmax is working on a contract to Orange doing something about increasing their mobile broadband capacity (or something) not sure if that will help your problems but it might be related.
    Happy Gardening,
    Shirley

I think I know the problem.

      You're using a pear-shaped orange.

Thanks Shirley I think they're seperate systems though - my mobile is working reasonably well as a modem, it just costs a fortune because I only have a 30mb bundle included in my contract. It's the landline broadband that's not working at all at the mo.

We have a lot of problems off & on with AOL broadband connection so I think they all come with their own problems. I've given up ringing the helpline as they just go through the same routine every time & say things like it's due to heavy usage in our area & we may not have a strong enough BT connection etc. Maybe you'll get a better connection if Orange merge with T-Mobile (not!)

Ha! We've had them try to blame BT before now, but we're only 8 houses away from the Exchange building, so I just say ok, I'll nip down the road and ask the engineers then...

Anyhoo.. I'd better disappear for a bit, I've used 12mb already of the 21 I had left! Fingers crossed it'll all be working properly very soon...

                The answer is yes

I have worked for 2 broadband companies in the past, not Orange though,
all companies good as long as they work, when things go wrong then its a different matter,

sadly unless you have a business contract with the broadband company they will never give you a time scale they will have the term "reasonable time scale for repairing faults" with a consumer ADSL line. your definition to reasonable time and theirs will be totally different, the tech staff you talk to will not be doing the repairs and will have no idea what is actually happening, sadly now days the phone staff may have no tech experience what so ever as most work off scripts and some will even discipline staff for indicating a truthful timescale

My Broadband is with TalkTalk a company that had the worst reputation at one time, I have not had a problem with them ever, but I know of people who would not touch them with a barge pole, being with BT does not make a difference either as there customer service isn't always great

to be fair to Orange it could be a BT fault, it might be further along the line than a exchange fault

Most domestic ADSL users dont have a "enhanced care" package on their connection and if the fault is with BT then without "enhanced care" they (BT) dont really have to do anything for upto 40 hours, but to have enhanced care you first need to have "Total Care" on the analogue line.
Total care is usually around £3.30/per month from your line provider and enhanced care roughly about a tenner a month. I dont bother with enhanced care but I do have Total Care on the line, but I run a business that would be dead in the water without its ADSL connection.

I was with Orange for years.
Most of the time it was great but did have little epsodes when it didn't work at all.
Moved house and tried to stay with Orange - disaster - stories of all kinds which were rubbish.
Changed to BT, instant connection, no problems, and great service since.
I know where I am staying, even if it is a little bit more expensive.

The odd glitch where it goes wrong and they fix it, I can cope with, nothing's perfect after all. But the way it's been just dropping out and back on again, for a good few weeks now, is getting very annoying indeed!
We'll see how it goes, I've been online for over half an hour and it hasn't dropped out yet so it's already better than yesterday!

Whatever you do, don't try to change to another company. It's a total nightmare.
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

Been with BT Broadband for about 12 months now (they didn't even charge me for 'reconnecting' to the landline that we cancelled 8 months before. Initially the wireless connection kept 'dropping out' and when we spoke to someone at BT 'remotely' strengthened the signal and since them its been absolutely fine. Think I'll stay with them for the moment.

I have the same problem at home with Alice. Just a nightmare. It regularly drops out for no discernable reason and when I phone the company, I get asked exactly the same questions that I have been asked the previous 200+ times that I've called.
It drops out around 9PM and when I wake up in the morning its generally back on. They even suggested on one of my calls that I stay up all night to see what time it came back on?????
Problem is, where I live, ALL of the broadband suppliers appear to be the same. Just pitiful.
