  • An update on Suzi

Just a little update on the liver failure kitty for anyone interested! When I last posted, her and Rosco simply avoided each other and aside from VERY minor scuffles, I'm happy to report that there have been no fights whatsoever. For Rosco this is a huge thing - he was left traumatised by a fight with another cat 2 years ago (he ended up bald from ear to ear as there was a huge wound on his head, which became the mother of all abscesses). Since then, he's acted with 'fear-based aggression' towards any other cat, hence my reservations about ever taking on a second.

To my (very pleasant) surprise, things have progressed to a point where they will sit on the same bed (begrudgingly), will eat RIGHT next to each other (happily) and the only signs of any grumpyness are Suzi hissing at Rosco if he gets too close (he occasionally smacks her bum from behind, lol!).

Suzi still has a healthy appetite and the only signs of her illness are inability to put on weight and I've noticed that her fur is thinning along the spine and neck - I can only assume that this is because she's starting to moult, but her body doesn't have enough energy to replace the fur quickly enough. She also throws up at least twice a week and I've got my first stain on my nice bedroom carpet!! She's still very athletic and despite falling in the loo, continues to drink from it (yuck!). She is also a cheeky monkey and stole some ham fat, which I'd put aside for her, on the kitchen worktop. I'm not allowed to stay in bed beyond 8am, either. She sits next to my face (normally Rosco is on the other side of me) and sniffs/licks my nose until I get up.

She shows signs of wanting to explore the outside world, so on mild days I do let her sniff the garden, but she won't go out properly until it's much warmer - hoping she lasts until then! I was told she only had a couple of months, but it's been almost 2 months, now and her appetite tells me she's not ready to go just yet! This is her after nicking food from Rosco's bowl. Yes, they do this to each other and Rosco is too bloody lazy to use his own litter in the night (downstairs), so he digs for China in hers and wakes me up!!

Thanks for the update, she still looks like she's got a lot of life left in her & is a very pretty little cat, glad Rosco's accepted her (to some extent) now!

Thanks all. I managed to get pick up a bag of Puppy Pads from Freecycle, yesterday, so have lined 'her' room, with the hope that any vomit in there will land on pads, not carpet.

This is a more up to date pic, taken last night - that red fleece was mine until a few weeks ago. Must claim that back, one day...
