  • Update on cat that went missing before xmas

Remember before christmas I mentioned that our old cat went missing and never turned up ? Today I saw a similar looking cat ( not our cat ) up the road and said to the owner we had a cat like that and he went missing. It turned out that she had taken him in and put posters up but cos we very rarely walk up that road. Not a happy ending as he died about 2 weeks after he went missing, he was elderly, at least we now know what happened to him.
Now I have a problem she obviously took him to the vet and had a tooth removed that we had decided not to have done because we didnt want to stress him out etc. Do we offer her some money or do we leave it. She didnt metion anything about any costs etc. Do I just take her some flowers / chocs/ wine ?
    What would you do.
A bit annoyed cos we left our number with all the vets and rescue centre's and RSPCA with permission for them to give it out if anyone found him. She had contacted them and put up posters as did we.

    Sorry about your cat.
Our old cat died of old age last year while we were on holiday.
I`d send her a gift. Does she garden, you could buy her a plant.

No I dont think she does gardening but could get a plant, she has two cats and a dog that is blind. Our cat wasnt shut in or anything he could just walk out cos she leaves her front door open. Strange that he didnt come home as he was so close.

They do say that cats go away when they die. They say they don`t want you to see them go.

I would think a big bunch of flowers and a heartfelt thank you would be a beautiful gesture. Obviously this woman took it upon herself to take your wee cat to the vets. But since you now know what happened I think its appropriate to thank her for her kindness.

Let us know how you get on and although its a sad ending at least you can put your mind at rest.
Serene she stand amid the flowers,
And only count lifes sunny hours,
For her dull days do not exist,

Jackie, cats are very strange creatures as I'm sure you know! I had taken my own cat to the vet in January and I'd to put in in one of the cages overnight. Next to his cage was another poorly cat, and I said to my daughter that he looked like our friend's cat...and she agreed. Got home, phoned my friend to ask if her cat was missing, and he was...so she phoned the vet the next day. The cat had died ovenight. However, it was her neighbour who had found the cat in her shed....and had been feeding it....and realised it was poorly and taken it straight to the vet. My friend is devastated that the neighbour didn't inform her. My friend just thought the cat had strayed. Her neighbour hadn't kept it locked in or anything either.

                Two things come to mind:

                1. Maybe neighbours aren't as neighbourly anymore and don't pay attention to things around them

                or

                2. Cats being cats....just do their own thing anyway! (see my avatar)

I think a nice houseplant and chocs should thank her enough.

How about a plant and make a donation to a cat charity in her name.

That's a shame about your cat Jackie but at least you know now that he didn't die alone & someone was taking care of him. I'd give her a thank you card & some flowers.

How sad, but at least you now know what happened. They are strange creatures; mine is a Daddy's girl, and only comes to me if DH is out - unless she's unwell then she comes to me.

Send the lady some flowers .
